What is a med spa, and how is it different from a day spa?

A med spa combines the relaxing experience of a traditional spa with treatments that require medical training and oversight. At KP Aesthetics, every service is provided under the direction of Kate Preston, M.D., a trained general surgeon with more than a decade of experience in aesthetic medicine. That means the technology, products, and injectables used here are medical grade, and your treatment plan is built around your health history — not a one-size-fits-all menu. What services does KP Aesthetics offer?

Do I need a consultation before my first treatment?

Yes, and it is one of the most valuable parts of the process. Your consultation gives us time to understand your goals, review your medical history, and explain which treatments will actually get you the outcome you want. There is no pressure to book anything on the spot. You will leave with a clear plan, realistic expectations, and answers to every question you brought with you. How do I schedule an appointment?

You can book online at any time through our secure booking system, or call our office at (928) 864-8090 during business hours. New and returning patients are both welcome, and our team will help you find a time that works with your schedule.

Where is your office located?

We are located at 77 W Forest Ave, Suite 201, Flagstaff, AZ 86001, as the medical aesthetics department of Flagstaff Surgical Associates. Parking and building access details are available on our Contact page, along with directions.

What are your office hours?

Our current hours are Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with limited Saturday availability by appointment only. Because appointment windows are focused, we recommend booking in advance to secure the time you want.

Are your treatments safe?

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. All treatments are performed or supervised by qualified medical professionals in a clinical setting, using FDA-cleared devices and products from established manufacturers. Before any service, we review your health history, current medications, and skin condition to confirm you are a good candidate. If a treatment is not appropriate for you, we will tell you and suggest a better alternative.

Do aesthetic treatments hurt?

Most patients describe our treatments as very tolerable. Injectables involve a brief pinch that lasts only a few seconds. For microneedling and certain laser or radiofrequency treatments, we apply a topical numbing cream beforehand so you stay comfortable throughout. Chemical peels may cause a temporary tingling or warm sensation that fades quickly. Your provider will walk you through exactly what to expect before starting.

How much downtime should I plan for?

It depends on the treatment. Injectables and laser hair removal typically require no downtime at all, and most people return to work or errands the same day. Microneedling and medium-depth chemical peels can leave the skin pink or flaky for a few days. XERF radiofrequency treatments are non-invasive with minimal recovery. We will always tell you upfront how your skin may look afterward so you can plan around events, travel, or work.

How long do results last?

Longevity varies by treatment and by individual. Neuromodulators like Botox® and Xeomin® generally last three to four months. Results from chemical peels and microneedling build over several weeks and are best maintained with a series of sessions. Laser hair removal delivers long-term reduction after a full treatment package. Skin tightening results from XERF continue improving as collagen rebuilds over the following months. Your provider will recommend a maintenance schedule tailored to your goals.

How much do treatments cost?

Pricing depends on the treatment, the areas being addressed, and the number of sessions recommended. Does insurance cover aesthetic treatments?

Cosmetic and aesthetic treatments are elective and are generally not covered by health insurance. Payment is due at the time of service, and we accept several payment methods. If you have questions about payment options or packages, our team is happy to walk you through them before you book.

Am I too young or too old for aesthetic treatments?

There is no single right age to start. Some patients in their twenties and thirties come in for preventive care and skin quality, while others begin later to address volume loss, sun damage, or laxity. What matters more than age is your skin, your health history, and your goals. Treatments are always adapted to where you are now, not to a number.

Will my results look natural?

That is our priority. Our approach is conservative and proportionate — enhancing your features rather than changing them. Dr. Preston brings surgical precision and a strong understanding of facial anatomy to every treatment, and we would rather start conservatively and add more than overtreat. Most patients tell us they look refreshed and rested, not obviously treated.

Can I combine multiple treatments?

Often, yes. Combining treatments can address several concerns at once and produce more complete results — for example, pairing injectables for expression lines with a chemical peel or microneedling for skin texture. Some combinations need to be spaced out to allow proper healing. During your consultation we will map out a sequence that is both safe and efficient.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Arrive with clean skin and no makeup when possible. Avoid alcohol, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory medications for a few days before injectable treatments to reduce bruising, unless your physician has directed otherwise. For laser treatments, avoid sun exposure and self-tanner beforehand. We will send you treatment-specific instructions in advance so nothing catches you off guard.

What skincare should I use after a treatment?

Post-treatment skin needs gentle cleansing, consistent hydration, and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen — especially at Flagstaff’s elevation, where UV exposure is significantly stronger. We carry medical-grade skincare products chosen to protect and extend your results, and your provider will recommend a simple routine that fits your skin type.

Do you offer treatments for men?

Absolutely. Men make up a growing portion of our patients and come in for wrinkle reduction, laser hair removal, skin tightening, and general skin health. Treatment plans for men account for differences in skin thickness, muscle strength, and hair density, and are always tailored to deliver a natural, masculine result.

What if I am nervous about my first treatment?

That is completely normal, and you will never be rushed here. Your first visit is a conversation first and a treatment second. We will explain each option, show you what results are realistic, and let you decide at your own pace.
